The Rowan County Sheriff's Office arrested a pair of Kannapolis men Thursday for stealing a safe that contained $65,000 worth of mint proof coins, gold currency and silver bars, reports said.
The theft of the safe occurred April 5 from a detached garage at a Rowan County home.
Authorities charged Thomas James Blakeney, 20, of 816 Genoa St., Kannapolis, and Eric Antoine Ware, 25, of 655 State St., Kannapolis, with safecracking; breaking, entering and larceny; and obtaining property by false pretense.
On April 21, the men allegedly tried to cash in some of the coins for $1,400 from Donald Warren, reports said.
