The rescheduled "Your Wild Backyard" event at Boone's Cave Park begins at 10 a.m. May 17 and continues through 3 p.m.
"Your Wild Backyard" is sponsored by Davidson County Parks and Recreation with the Davidson County Master Gardeners.
Bob Pendergrass with the N.C. Falconers Guild will bring Jeremy, a red tailed hawk and Ellen Hindman will being Zorro, a gray wolf for demonstration.
Nature walks and scavenger hunts for kids will be part of the day. Kids who complete the scavenger hunt can take home wildflower seeds or seedling trees provided by the Master Gardeners. Salamanders, frogs, bird nests, bobcat skulls and other natural wonders will be on display .
Staff from Dan Nicholas Park, Catawba College, Horizon's Unlimited, Land Trust for Central North Carolina and the N.C. Forest Service will also be available with a variety of displays.
Nature walks also are held every Saturday at 1 p.m. at the park. Meet at the monument inside the park for a 30-minute stroll that ends at Boone's Cave. Medicinal and useful plants known to Daniel Boone will be identified along the way.
Also on May 17 at 8 a.m., a monthly bird walk will include views of spring migrants that are coming through, including summer tangers, prothonotary warblers and black-throated green warblers. These walks take place every month on the third Saturday.
All the events are free to the public and geared for kids and young families.
