Teens charged in flea market break-in
E-mail to a friendSalisbury Post Authorities charged three teens, one a juvenile, with breaking into the Webb Road Flea Market late Monday. A security guard at the flea market spotted three people wearing black clothing running from the market around 10:10 p.m. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office charged Randy Lynn Basinger, 17, of 510 Cliff Eagle Drive, Salisbury, and Daniel Alexander Aldridge, also 17, of 1115 Double Impact Drive, Rockwell, with breaking and entering, larceny and trespassing. A 15-year-old Salisbury female was charged and referred to juvenile authorities. The guard noticed a table had been moved and found some items on the floor. The suspects took Army helmets, bags of caramel candy, four General Lee model cars, two Dodge Charger Daytona model cars and a digital card. Lt. Mark Benfield of the Landis Police Department, who was heading home at the time of the incident, spotted a car sitting near the Leach Road area. The suspects then returned to that car and were apprehended. Deputy M.L. Shrewsbury and Sgt. T.B. Rowland of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office arrested the teens. Basinger and Aldridge were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. They have since posted bonds. About a week ago, thieves broke into the flea market and stole swords and knives from a booth. Officials say they don't believe the two break-ins are connected. Contact Shavonne Potts at 704-797-4253 or spotts@salisburypost.com. Comments (10)What do you think? Post your comment below. ms. davis as a former vendor of webb rd flea market i must disagree this is a very common thing at webb rd. that is one of the reasons i pulled out. it was costing me more than i was making. breakins are common and so was shoplifters. people dont realize how common theft and robbery is, not just at the flea market but everywhere. trouble is if you try to stop them and they get hurt they can sue you even though they were the ones breaking the law, they are also the ones that have all the rights and the legal system backs it up.

Taking Responsibility for Your Own Actions : Wednesday, June 04, 2008 6:50 AMI have to commend Daniel Aldridge for taking ownership of his own actions. He knows what part he played in this situation and is not trying to point the finger at someone else to deny responsibility. That shows real character and backbone. Others could learn a lesson in responsibility from him.

This is ridiculous use of the media : Monday, June 02, 2008 7:31 PMIt is highly irresponsible of this paper to print comments on Randy and Daniel. This case still has to go to trial and these irrevelant comments could bias public opinion before the boys are tried. It sounds like a few of Randy's supporters have spoken out, but this does not mean Daniel does not have supporters as well. It is not fair for some kids' opinions in the Post to try this case by swaying public opinion before the trial is even held. Is this even legal? I hope not.

: Saturday, May 17, 2008 6:52 AMI grew up in school with Randy Basinger. He was crazy, funny and one of the most respectfull people ill ever meet. He was never a trouble maker and usually showed a great deal of leadership in areas. I knew him very well enough to say that this entire show was not his idea. He always kept me from getting in trouble and i know without a dought he dident do this unless he was made to or couldent get his way out of it. I dont know Daniel Aldridge but sounds like he got Randy in trouble. Ive never known Randy to get in trouble like this. So to everybody reading these dont think of Randy as a trouble maker. Ive known him for a number of years and this is not him. Hes a great, funny, careful, and thoughtfull person.

: Friday, May 16, 2008 6:39 AMAs a former vendor at Webb Road I can say that break-ins are regular enough that it's to say that the two instances could very well not be connected. The security at Webb Road is not so great, but that is what you get when you have an open area like that, some tables with tarps over them, and one fellow in a camper that is "security". You have inside spaces that have pulldown doors, but even those just require a quick hacksawing to remove locks on if someone wants to get the contents inside enough. Locks in general only keep out the honest people, same with tarps and clamps to keep the weather off the merchandise.

Friday, May 16 : Friday, May 16, 2008 4:31 AMI know of Randy Basinger and I am absolutely shocked of him involved in this. I also know of Daniel Aldrige and that boy is nothing but trouble. What I remember of him in school before he ran away from home is that he was disrespectful to teachers and liked to cause trouble as well as his sister.

: Thursday, May 15, 2008 3:46 AMI know all three of the teens involved. Randy was, and still is, one of my very best friends. He's crazy and all, but I'd never thought in a million years that he would get involved in something like this. But, this is the single-most, dumb, stupid thing that he has ever done.

Flea Market Break In : Thursday, May 15, 2008 1:26 AMHow can the two breakins not be connected? Breaking into a flea market is not very common, whomever thought about breaking in the week before either knew the suspects or was with them. This is one incident that I would not consider coincidental.
