CONCORD — A Concord teenager died Tuesday afternoon, two days after the motorized scooter he was riding collided with a truck in Concord.
The Concord Police Department said Larry Ray Carpenter, 19, of 67 Wilson St. N.E., was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte Sunday night and died as a result of his injuries Tuesday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation indicates the scooter driver, Randel Alexander Orr, 19, of 134 Powder St. S.W., Concord, didn't stop for a stop sign and pulled into the path of a Chevrolet truck.
The accident occurred at 11:17 p.m. Sunday at Corban Avenue and Powder Street.
An ambulance took Orr to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast for treatment. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening, the Police Department reported.
Adam Tyler Morton, of 204 Claw Road, Oakboro, was driving the 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup that collided with the scooter. David Martin Clontz, 20, of 392 Honeycutt Drive S.E., Concord, was also riding in the truck, but neither of the two was injured.
The Concord Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation of the accident, and no charges had been filed Wednesday.
Carpenter is the fourth person to die in an auto accident in Concord this year and the second fatality in a week.

Better educational system! : Thursday, July 24, 2008 6:45 PM
It appears to me that a better educational system needed to be put into place a long time ago if you couldn't understand the article. Maybe it's that these people are in the percentage that dropped out or weren't paying ANY attention when basic skills were being taught! What is the matter with you people? Email the article to yourself (if you can figure out how to), get off the "peace pipes" for a few days and reread it. You will find it quite clear! Condolences to the family.

Tragedy : Thursday, July 24, 2008 2:03 PM
You people need to have a heart, Larry is family to my sister through marriage and the family is really hurting they don't need to see people making hurtful comments, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say nothing at all!! You know his family is going through hell without people adding to it!! How would you feel if you had to bury a 19 year old family member?

It looks pretty plain to me that there was two on the scooter. As a result one of them died and the other was sent to the hospital. It says "the driver Orr was sent to the hospital and treated for his injuries". Real simple to figure out that Carpenter was a passenger on the scooter and lost his life. So no the editor does not need a new job, You need to learn how to read. Most of all everyone needs to stop being so worried about someone elses jobs and how they do it. I mean dang no one tells you how to flip hamburgers at McDonalds!!!! Most of all I'm sorry for the family who lost a loved one, may god be with you and help you through this time of need.

Yes, but it doesn' say whether Mr Carpenter was on the scooter as a passenger, a pedestrian, or engaged in another activity. It is incomplete.
