Rockwell teen charged with neighborhood break-ins

John Bellinger

E-mail to a friend

ROCKWELL — Rowan County sheriff's detectives have charged a Rockwell teenager with breaking into two neighbors' houses around the July 4 holiday.

The detectives recovered two guitars taken in the break-ins in Charlotte, according to a Sheriff's Office press release.

On Tuesday, detectives arrested John Forrest Bellinger, 18, and also executed a search warrant at Bellinger's home, 795 Sam Euart Road, Rockwell. The search warrant was part of an investigation of two home break-ins on Pheasant Lane, which is in the same area as Bellinger's home.

Authorities obtained the warrants on the break-in charges against Bellinger, and when detectives arrested him, Bellinger tried to throw away a bag of marijuana, according to the press release.

During the search, detectives also "discovered several items of drug paraphernalia and 12 grams of marijuana seeds," the Sheriff's Office said. "The seeds were packaged in a plastic bag and stored inside a locked briefcase that also contained other items of drug paraphernalia."

Bellinger faces two counts each of of felony breaking and entering and larceny; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to Sgt. C.A. Moose of the sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division.

Pot is not a drug?? Wow, are you retarded? Here are the laws for Drug Possession in NC. ******************************************** Possession of one half ounce or less is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, most likely suspended. Possession of greater than one half ounce is punishable by 1 - 120 days in jail, with a possibility of community service or probation in lieu of jail. Possession greater than 1.5 ounces increases the penalties to up to 12 months in jail. Manufacture, Cultivation, sale or delivery of less than five grams, for no remuneration (payment, barter, or exchange of any kind) is considered possession and not sale. For amounts of ten pounds or less, the penalty is up to 12 months in jail. Penalties for sale, delivery or manufacture are increased if the sale occurs within 300 feet of a school zone if the offender is over 21 and if the sale was made to a minor or to a pregnant woman. Burnouts..."not that big of a deal"....???? : Tuesday, August 12, 2008 5:40 AM

Let me TELL you what burnouts can lead to....When I was in high school there was a kid in my neighborhood just like Forest. One day him and a buddy were doing burnouts, a competition of sorts to see who could lay the longest mark. Then it got a little heated and they tore around the neighborhood after eachother. One of the cars took a corner a little fast and the car swung wide....REALLY WIDE....and they went through this lady's front yard tearing up EVERYTHING in its path. That lady was 6 months pregnant with her third child....and she was standing on her front porch when the car came through her yard. She lost the child she was carrying later that evening because of how devistated and upset she was after watching that car kill her 2 and 4 year olds while were playing in their own front yard. I lived next door to that family, I was 16, and I babysat those kids many times. The year was 1979 and I'm STILL trying to forget what brain tissue looks as it's dripping from the front grill of a Camaro. There is no such thing as "harmless mischief" people.

Forest : Tuesday, July 29, 2008 8:25 PM

It appears that Forest lives at home with his mom. Is she sick and has lost her sense of smell? If he were living in my home, he would have a curfew and go by the rules that I set in the home. Going to ANY church all of your life does not make a person a Christian anymore than going in and out of a barn all of your life makes you a horse!!!!! Some parents think their children can do NO wrong. I have said a prayer for this family and hope that he was taught the Ten Commandments while he was being raised in church. Isn't one of the Commandments "Thou Shalt Not Steal"?

Shame on all of you for living in that neighborhood and not being willing to share the possessions you worked so hard for with the neighborhood "good kids"! I would think you would be willing to open your homes (even when you are away on vacation) for the kids in the neighborhood who don't bother anyone, except their drug suppliers in the middle of the night and the occasional hard working homeowner while they are out of town. Shame on all of you, this "good boy" is just misguided and unfortunate to have gotten caught.

Have I mentioned how nice and peaceful the neighborhood is now that our resident punk is in the big house??? Oops, or should I say the "nice kid" in the neighborhood who was forced to break in to his neighbors' homes and steal from them. Yes, all is quiet in the "old fart" neighborhood (as it should be). I do, however, miss the aroma of pot in the air (and calling the cops to report it). What a shame it is that this "good kid" is sitting in jail, but I guess we should pity him, not the people he stole from. Can't wait to see his pot smoking buddies go down with him. It's just a matter of time. Yep, ole' Forest might be getting some company. Hope they don't have any prior drug convictions like their good buddy. That could really mess them up in court, you know??? But, as we've all learned from this, poor Forest is the victim here.

Good Kids Make Mistakes Too : Monday, July 28, 2008 9:29 AM

I have been a friend of Forest's mother for over 30 years and I know for a fact she is a VERY GOOD MOTHER! Her boys are good kids. She has always been involved in her sons' lives and continues to be. They both mean the world to her. I don't think that anyone has mentioned that Forest attended a well regarded Catholic school for the first years of his life and was a good student with lots of friends and teachers that really cared about his well being. In fact, religion has been and still is a huge part of he and his family's life. In fact, I'm sure he is praying long and hard for guidance from the Lord that he has come to know and love. Of course Forest did not choose to attend a Catholic school and go to Mass on a regular basis on his own, this is because of his Mother and her strong Catholic beliefs, along with all of her family, who by the way are all wonderful people. I find it hard to believe that any of you that think Forest is just another disposable kid, have not made mistakes in your life, including your own children or family members. None of us chooses this for our children and I think if we are truly honest with ourselves we wouldn't be so judgmental. If you've never had to deal with something of this magnitude, I'm truly happy for you, if you have then you should have compassion for this young man. I've been where this family is now and I know things can get better with guidance and support from friends and family, but also with help from resources within the community. Let's remember too, he is innocent until proven guilty. So instead of being so quick to decide what Forest should have to endure, maybe the best we can do is hope that this will turn out well for he and his family in the end, especially when you don't really know the facts or the person. I am praying for and supporting this family and will continue to do so, because I KNOW if anyone deserves it, they do!

this poor kid thing... : Saturday, July 26, 2008 11:05 PM

Ok he's 18, he should know better, if he had done these things then yes he should pray... if they found the drugs then that’s on him. He is a reckless driver. I live in this neighborhood. He scared me since my son had to wait for the bus stop and John Forrest Bellinger would come flying down his driveway, would not stop at the stop sign and drive off. If he did the crime then he should pay. Our neighbors don't need to have their houses broken into. So stop blaming the mom... she can only do so much. He is 18 she can't control him. She also needs to not say how hard it is because she's a single mom. A lot of single mom's raise their children and they don't get into this trouble. The comments about "East" kids... that is just wrong there are wonderful kids in the East area.

You all disgust me! How can you condemn an 18 year old? People need dramatic events like this in order to change and it will be for the better I guarantee that. None of you know what this child has been through in his life! ALL teenagers get into fights with their parents it is not that shocking. And people who are too ignorant to even spell his name right should just stop putting ridiculous comments on here because it is just making Cornelius Farms sound like a neighborhood full of dumb, gossiping old farts (which it is) because you obviously know nothing about FOREST. Also the person responsible for the car theft has been arrested and it was not Forest or anyone associated with Forest so stop mentioning that you ignorant idiots. A couple more things, I'm sure Forest wasn't stupid enough to smoke pot in the middle of the day in plain sight, and if he did and you actually saw it, it's a crime not to report it, you stupid jerk. So I wouldn't go around bragging that I saw him do illegal drugs and did nothing to stop it. It's pathetic that your lives are so boring that you sit at your computers thinking of worthless things to say about people you know nothing about. Fireworks and burnouts? If thats all the hard evidence you've got on Forest then I hope you all do go as witnesses to his trial so the judge can see what a joke all of you are!

I'm so sick of the "Poor Forrest" and "Leave him alone unless you know him" comments being posted. It's too bad we can't go back in time, because I'd invite those of you leaving such pathetic comments about this punk to come spend some time in our neighborhood before Forrest was taken to jail. This poor, pitiful, good boy you're speaking of could be seen smoking pot in the front yard with his little brother and buddies during the broad daylight, having such a horrendous screaming/cursing match with his mother that you have to take your kids inside because of the explicit language, speeding through the neighborhood wrecklessly while kids are outside playing, shooting off fireworks at all hours of the night, egging homes, STEALING from his neighbors and the list goes on and on. This is not hearsay. This is fact. I do agree that teenagers get into mischief, but what Forrest has done to people in this neighborhood goes beyond mischief. It's too bad that the neighborhood can't be called to his trial as witnesses to his little antics. I'm sure we'd all band together to make sure he was sent away for a long time. It's so nice to finally have peace and quiet in our neighborhood. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to the police for finally giving this punk what he so rightfully deserves.

I was just replying to the comment that there is "always" supervision at her house...not "always"!!! And I bet he is sorry for what he did, I don't think he is for the right reasons though. I think it is because he got caught. So if he is so sorry, why does he continue doing bad things. I have been at this house numerous times when the mother was not there, and I made sure that there was nothing bad going on. This comment is sent to the person who is making accusations that there is no one supervising her children. It is not as easy as you may think to be a single mother raising two boys, and most adults do leave their 18 year old son at home alone. If you have children, watch what you say now because when your children grow up you will wake up yourself. Next time maybe you should get your facts straight before you try to act like you know what goes on behind closed doors. We are aware that there have been unwelcome people hanging around this neighborhood, but they have also been ran off. Haven't you noticed the "NO TRESSPASSING" sign in her yard?
