Monster Mash Bash to raise money for Relay For Life

The Forum is offering an opportunity to work out and raise money for cancer research in its third annual Monster Mash Bash.

The event is Oct. 17, a Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participating members and non-members pay $10 to exercise, with all the proceeds going to the Rowan County Relay For Life.

"We want to create a healthy community one body at a time," said General Fitness Manager Sacha Roberts.

It was also important to organizers that the money raised stay in the local community.

A class will be offered every hour, but no one has to exercise for several hours straight, Roberts pointed out.

"They can take a break," she said.

Anyone who wants to participate can sign up and show up the day of the event. Participants can also have friends sponsor them for the day by paying their $10 registration fee.

The schedule is:

- 9 a.m. BodyPump, cycle

- 10 a.m. BodyStep, cycle

- 10:15 a.m. Metabolic Effect (children), outside

- 10:45 a.m. Boot Camp (adults), outside 30-minute class

- 11 a.m. BodyCombat

- 12 p.m-12:30 p.m. lunch provided by Olive Garden

- 12:30 p.m. BodyAttack

- 1:30 p.m. BodyFlow

Roberts said the children's Metabolic Effect class is for ages 8 and older. The class is basically cardiovascular exercise with lots of pushups and situps.

Massage therapist Megan Shuping will offer her services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $1-a-minute massages. A percentage of those proceeds will also go to Relay for Life.
