Notes from the Farmer's Market

E-mail to a friend

- This week you'll find an abundance of squash, melons, onions, corn and cucumbers, with an increasing supply of tomatoes, variety peppers, green beans and potatoes.

- Eagle Farms introduces green tomatoes (ready to fry) and zebra tomatoes that are striped green and red when fully ripe.

- The green beans from Dawn's Greenhouse have been raised without chemicals or pesticides.

- Country Gardens offers living salad in the form of romaine lettuce growing in pots, to be harvested as you need it.

- At Landis Gourmet Mushrooms, you'll find backyard apples, never touched by sprays or polish of any kind, ideal for applesauce.

- Cress Farm is selling the Sensation Melon, a small specialty melon with sweet white meat.

- Seng Yang has added beets, turnips and fresh flowers to their Asian vegetables.

- At How Sweet It Is, look for new, organic doggie treats. They're made with whole grains and chicken stock.

- Several vendors now have local honey, with and without the comb, some dark, some lighter.

- Wild Turkey Farms returns Saturday, July 26, with pork, beef and some produce.

The Salisbury Farmers Market is located at the corner of South Main and Bank streets. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday.

For best selection, arrive early.
