Mall should improve

handicapped access

I would like to know why Salisbury Mall is so prejudiced against the handicapped, most specifically those who must use a wheelchair? Not only are there no automatic doors to allow easy access and the doors are too heavy for a person in a wheelchair to move easily, usually resulting in painful knocks on the elbows and knees. For one in a wheelchair, it is impossible to gain access without assistance. As an added insult, there is a handicapped access sticker on an outside door that is only slightly less accessible than a brick wall.

You would think that chains like Belk, JCPenney, Goody's, RadioShack and Books-a-Million would be concerned about potential customers who shop elsewhere out of frustration.

All handicapped people should shop elsewhere until the mall management discovers that we are indeed human beings and customers with money to spend somewhere else if we can't get into Salisbury Mall.

North Hills kids

I want to commend "my kids" at North Hills Christian School for the the way they have helped several families in our community this year. They have held several fundraisers for families associated with the school — including my husband and me.

I taught Spanish there for the last 31/2 years but had to resign due to my husband's health problems. On their own, the students decided to have a benefit softball game to help with Walter's medical expenses. The school gave its blessing to the idea. It was the boys team against the girls team. The guys won the game — but the girls raised more money! Consequently, the boys were not supposed to talk all day at school the following day!

Friday at North Hills' Field Day, Patrick Michael, whose idea the game was, and Dustin Pruitt presented me with a significant check. The entire school helped to raise the money — even my little kids. I am so proud of them — and their desire to serve the Lord in helping others. Thanks, guys!
